What this site is

De Champollion au GEM is an independent research-journal on the Grand Egyptian Museum at Giza. It is written and edited by Dr Hélène Aboul-Naga from Cairo. It is non-commercial and carries no advertising.

What this site is not

• It is not a guide-book. It does not list opening hours, practical visit details, or any other operational information.
• It is not a sales channel. Nothing on this site is for sale. There is no shop, no commerce, no transactions of any kind.
• It is not affiliated with the Grand Egyptian Museum, the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities, the Supreme Council of Antiquities, or any other governmental or institutional body. The opinions are the editor's alone.
• It is not a forum or a comment platform. The contact form sends private letters; nothing is published from readers without their permission.

Reproduction

The editorial text on this site is © 2026 Dr Hélène Aboul-Naga. Personal reading, teaching, and academic quotation (with attribution) are explicitly welcome. Commercial reproduction, syndication, or republication of any kind is not permitted without prior written agreement with the editor.

The photographs

Photographs on the site are reproduced from Wikimedia Commons under their declared Creative Commons licences. The licence and the photographer are credited on the relevant Commons file page. Readers wishing to re-use a photograph should consult the Commons page for the licence terms; they should not assume that this site holds any rights it can transfer.

Accuracy

The field reports are written carefully, but they are written by one editor and are not peer-reviewed. Errors will exist. The editor welcomes corrections and will publish them in the next issue, with credit to the correcting reader if they wish.

You are welcome to link to any page on this site. You may quote up to a paragraph in a review, an academic paper, or another non-commercial publication, with attribution. Longer quotation requires the editor's permission.

Jurisdiction

The site is operated from Cairo, Egypt. Egyptian law applies to any dispute that, however unlikely, might arise.

Changes

These terms may be revised. The current version is the one published below; previous versions are kept in the editor's archive and can be requested.
